Questions and Answers about Hypnosis


Who can be hypnotized? Anyone with an open mind, reasonable intelligence and is able to concentrate. Approximately 40 % of the general population can be hypnotized in a relatively short time. Others, less adjustable, may take longer.

What makes a good subject? Mainly, a willingness to be hypnotized. Confidence and trust in the hypnotist and freedom from fear are important factors, also.

Is a hypnotized person asleep? No! You are neither asleep nor unconscious. You are in full possession of all faculties, even more keenly so that when in a "normal" state. You are capable of ending the hypnotic state anytime you wish.

Can I be made to do something I do not want to do? No! You are completely aware of all suggestions and will simply refuse to do anything contrary to your wishes. You may even come out of the hypnotic state in your refusal.

What about medical problems? Hypnosis is not the practice of medicine. A physician must handle problems of a medical nature. In fact, for most situations, we require a doctor's approval, or referral.

What is self-hypnosis? In self-hypnosis, the individual is trained to administer needed suggestions by himself. Once mastered, this can be a powerful tool for self-improvement.

What are some of the benefits of hypnosis and self-hypnosis? You can learn to relax! This ability in itself can change your outlook. You can improve memory and concentration, or calm bashfulness, control habits, develop social poise. You can enhance talents and athletic ability.

Is hypnosis dangerous? Hypnosis, per se, is no more dangerous than natural sleep. It will not weaken the will, damage the nervous system, or in any way adversely affect the physical and mental well being of individuals.

Is hypnosis habit forming? NO! Regardless of how many times a person has been hypnotized, he is never a "slave" to the hypnotist, nor under his control. He can resist any time he wishes.
